NEH Grant to Support Broader Adaptation of "Valley Sim" Platform

Professor of Communication Christian Spielvogel created "Valley Sim," an educational, multi-player, web-based roleplaying game set during the Civil War, through a start-up grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and a fellowship from the Virginia Endowment for the Humanities.  Now, through a major new grant from the NEH, the only one to a liberal arts college through the endorsement's "Digital Humanities Implementation Grants" program, Christian is leading a three-year effort to turn the framework that runs "Valley Sim" (short for Simulation) into a tool that other educators can easily use to develop games of their own.

Dr. Spielvogel has been using "Valley Sim" in his classes at Hope since 2009, and has also shared it with college, university and high school instructors around the country.
