The Hope women's soccer
team has been lauded by National Soccer Coaches Association of America for its
sportsmanship. Coach Leigh Sears’ Flying
Dutch were awarded the NSCAA Silver Team Ethics Award after completing the 2014
season with only three yellow cards from officials.
The honor recognizes teams
that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the
game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards
they are shown by referees throughout the season.
Hope finished the 2014
season with a 17-4-2 overall featured that included Michigan Intercollegiate
Athletic Association regular-season and tournament championships.
